Tall Ships Bermuda plan photo book
Tall Ships Bermuda is planning to capture the memories of the recent Tall Ships Festival in a book of photographs as a fund-raiser to further sail training for Bermuda's youth.
Tall Ships Bermuda is inviting the public to contribute to this cause by donating their best photographs of the Bermuda Tall Ships Festival events for inclusion in the book.
The book, which is due to be ready for a Christmas release, will feature both amateur and professional photographs of the festival from the community.
Director of Media and PR for Tall Ships Bermuda, Mrs. Beverley Morfitt said: "The organisation already has thousands of images — by land, sea and air — but Tall Ships Bermuda wanted to be inclusive by also featuring a collection of Tall Ships memories taken by professional and amateur photographers in the community."
"There were so many great photographic opportunities — from the arrival of the ships, to their berthing on Front Street, the different Festival events on Front Street, Barr's Bay Park, the Crew Parade, the Prize-Giving and the Parade of Sail" she said.
Nearly 100 young persons from Bermuda will be sail trainees on Tall Ships on various legs of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 which ends in Belfast, Northern Ireland in August. Photographers are invited to submit up to 10 photographs for selection and to write a few short lines explaining why each photo is special to them.
Photographs should be on a CD with the photographers name and contact details clearly marked — along with typed comments about each photograph — to the attention of Beverley Morfitt — at the Department of Communication and Information, Global House, Church Street, or at the Tall Ships Bermuda Office, LP Gutteridge Building, 34 Par-la-Ville Road/Bermudiana Road Hamilton.
Deadline for submissions is Wednesday 29 July 2009.
"Tall Ships Bermuda would like to say a big thank you to the general public, our many, many volunteers, and all of the sponsors, especially Bank of Bermuda Foundation, the Government of Bermuda and the Corporation of Hamilton for helping to make the Tall Ships Festival events an overwhelming success."
"The Tall Ships office has, and continues to receive many congratulations daily from the community on a job well done, and this is indeed gratifying, considering the many years of work that went into organising the Bermuda Tall Ships Festival," said Mrs. Morfitt.
