Teen will spend Christmas on remand

A Warwick teenager was remanded into custody over the Christmas holiday after he was charged with taking a machete to a party in St. George's.

Makeem Waldron was charged in Magistrates' Court yesterday with having a bladed article, namely a 20-inch machete, in his possession outside of Royal Artillery Association in St. George's, and using the weapon in a threatening manner.

The 18-year-old denied both charges.

The court heard from Crown counsel Paula Tyndale that at 1.40 a.m. on December 6, a number of 13- to 19-year-olds were outside of the club waiting to be picked up by parents after a birthday party, when the defendant pulled out a machete.

He then proceeded to wave the machete at the group of teenagers.

An off-duty Police officer happened to be at the venue and identified himself then arrested Waldron.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Waldron into custody until his trial on January 12.

He is represented by Charles Richardson.
