Where are the answers on Port Royal Golf Course? – Michael Dunkley

Opposition Senator Michael Dunkley has raised concerns about the refurbishment of the Port Royal Golf Course clubhouse after Government was unable to answer questions about the plan and cost.

He submitted a question to Junior Tourism Minister Marc Bean two questions were answered about money spent on refurbishing dolphin facilities in the Upper House yesterday but a third question about Port Royal was not answered.

Sen. Dunkley said: "The Junior Minister said the answers would be coming later today, well we have adjourned and I haven't had them.

"He alluded to some change in the schedule. I find that totally unacceptable for a number of reasons, first the Budget was dealt with in February and March, you would have thought that they would have long completed any plans."

He said minor changes would be understandable.

"But at this late stage with the course supposed to be open and hosting the grand slam in October, we are still messing around with the scope of work and they can't tell the people of Bermuda what's going on? It is totally unacceptable."

The question asked was: "Would the Junior Minister please provide the Senate with details of what plans are in place to either refurbish or renovate the Port Royal Golf Course clubhouse during the current project to renovate and upgrade the public golf course in Southampton, and at what cost?"

Mid Ocean Club have hosted the Grand Slam for the past two years after the tournament was moved from Hawaii.

But last year Premier Ewart Brown announced it would be switched from the Tucker's Town private club to Port Royal.

Around $14 million has been budgeted for the Port Royal facelift intended to make the course one of the most spectacular public lay-outs in the world.
