Woman had crack pipe near school, court told

A Paget woman pleaded guilty to possession of a homemade crack pipe in an increased penalty zone when she appeared at Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Jamika Thompson, 29, of College Hill, was stopped by Police at 11.45 p.m. on Beacon Street, Pembroke, under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Beacon Street is a designated increased penalty zone due to its close proximity to the Mount Saint Agnes school.

When Police informed Thompson that she was going to be searched she said: "No-one is doing drugs."

Police proceeded to search Thompson finding what they believed was a homemade crack pipe, which was later examined by a Government analyst and found to be positive for cocaine residue.

When Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Thompson why she had the pipe in her possession, she said: "I smoke it socially, I am sorry I was in that area. I am trying to quit."

Mr. Warner replied: "Before sentencing you I am going to see about getting you some help."

The matter was adjourned until January 28 with Magistrate Warner ordering a social inquiry report.
