Centre on Philanthropy opens new headquarters
The Centre on Philanthropy welcomed dignitaries including Governor Sir Richard Gozney, Minister of Public Information Services Neletha Butterfield and Senator David Burt to its new premises. The centre’s chairman, Brian Madeiros welcomed them and some of its supporters to a breakfast and open house event at Sterling House on Wesley Street, Hamilton, after a recent move from Point Finger Road in Paget.Mr Madeiros said the more central location will allow Bermuda’s charities, nonprofits, donors and volunteers greater access to the centre’s services. It is home to the Bank of Bermuda Third Sector Resource Centre and the Third Sector Training Centre, both of which are designed to support and increase the effectiveness of Bermuda’s charitable sector. The centre also runs volunteer.bm, a website dedicated to connecting charities and volunteers in Bermuda.“The training centre allows us to run our workshops, lunch and learns and evening sessions from a central location,” said Executive Director Pamela Barit Nolan. “Our resource centre is essentially a library of information for charities, donors and volunteers. We have a check out system for the publications, or people can stop by have a cup of coffee and browse.”The open house is also a homecoming for the centre, which began operations from a single desk at Sterling House in 1991. “We’re very happy to be back in Hamilton, and in time for our 20 year anniversary,” said Ms Barit Nolan. “Obviously we’ve grown a lot in the last two decades but our mission remains the same - to support Bermuda’s charities, donors and volunteers through training, education and information.”The centre is located on the ground floor of Sterling House at 16 Wesley Street and is open from 9am 5pm on weekdays.
