Bermudian mom has drugs charges dropped in Canada

A Bermudian mother-of-three has seen cocaine importation charges she was facing in Canada dropped.Sereana Brangman, 28, of Crown Lane, Warwick, returned home on Monday after ten weeks on remand in prison.She was detained by the authorities at Toronto Pearson International Airport on February 5 along with another Bermudian, Odin Lowe.The pair were on their way back to Bermuda from Jamaica.Around one kilogram of cocaine was found and they were both arrested on suspicion of importation.Although the Royal Canadian Mounted Police did not release details of the circumstances of the cocaine find, Ms Brangman’s mother, Debbie Wilson, told The Royal Gazette it was not found in Ms Brangman’s possession.Recent court cases in Bermuda indicate a kilogram of cocaine would be worth around $250,000 if sold in half-gram twists on the Island’s streets.Lowe and Ms Brangman were jointly charged with conspiring to import cocaine and importing it.Lowe, 29, of Happy Valley Lane, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to the importation charge when he appeared at Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on April 8. He was jailed for 27 months, plus two months of pre-sentence custody. The conspiracy charge was dropped.When Ms Brangman appeared at the same court last Friday, the charges were dropped and she was released from custody.Family members have been caring for her two young daughters and baby son since she was arrested.While Ms Brangman could not be reached for comment yesterday, Mrs Wilson said: “Sereana is back on the Island. The charges were dropped and she was free to leave Canada.”She added: “She is glad to be back with her children again.”
