Fire and burn concerns prompt product recall

A product recall has been issued for some garden power tools due to concerns over potential fire and burn hazards. The recall affects STIHL gas powered trimmers, brush cutters, KombiMotors, hedge trimmers, edgers, clearing saws, pole pruners, and backpack blowers that utilise a toolless fuel cap.It was issued yesterday by Bermuda’s Consumer Product Safety Commission following a recall by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission [CPSC].Consumers should stop using th products immediately and return them for repair to the authorised STIHL dealer in Bermuda, Sousa’s Landscape Management.According to the CPSC, the level of ethanol and other fuel additives can distort the toolless fuel cap in the tools, allowing fuel to spill and posing a fire and burn hazard.STIHL has received 81 reports of difficulty installing and/or removing the fuel caps and fuel spillage although no injuries have been reported. The following power tools and model numbers are included in the recall, and were distributed at authorised STIHL dealers from July 2002 until May 2011.
