MP Furbert sets sights on doctoral degree

Progressive Labour Party MP Wayne Furbert is going back to school to do a doctoral degree in international business and finance.Mr Furbert says he’s fulfilling a lifelong dream to pursue higher learning, and is doing it by e-learning to maintain his commitments on the Island.He vows to use his new education for the benefit of Bermuda, and says he’s been inspired to do the degree by family members such as Eva Hodgson, Marian Robinson, Shangri-La Durham-Thompson and Donna Durham-Pierre.“The desire is for personal satisfaction and intellectual stimulation,” he said. “Now that my twins have grown it allows me to do some things I have always wanted to.“A doctoral programme will provide the intellectual challenge.”Mr Furbert said he considered doing his doctoral degree in 2003 but decided against it, as at that time he was preparing to fight a general election.The chartered accountant and certified public accountant will do his degree through Walden University, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.Mr Furbert said this certifies that the teaching and learning processes meets the rigorous educational standards established by ACBSP, a leading specialised accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating and rewarding teaching excellence.The former United Bermuda Party leader, who is also doing an Associate in Insurance Accounting and Finance (AIAF), already has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics/Physics, Bachelor of Education degree, and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in E Commerce.
