36-year-old woman denies 21 deception charges

A 36-year-old woman this morning denied 21 counts of deception against Pembroke Parish Council totalling more than $15,000, during an appearance in Magistrates’ Court.Jac Aline Walker, of Colony Lane, Southampton, pleaded not guilty to dishonestly obtaining amounts of between $400 and $2,000 on 16 occasions between May last year and April 15.The charge stated she did so by falsely representing the money would be put into people’s accounts at the Pembroke Parish Council.She is also charged with stealing a purchase order book belonging to the council on March 19; dishonestly obtaining property valued at $410 from International Imports Ltd through payments not authorized by the council; and deceiving an employee of the store to dishonestly receive $396 worth of goods on April 7 with unauthorized payments.In addition, Mrs Walker is charged with dishonestly obtaining property from the store valued at $396 on April 8; and dishonestly obtaining a food processor and other items valued at $416 on April 15.Mrs Walker, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Details on her relation to the company or the particulars of the offences were not read out in court.Prosecutor Tawana Tannock, however, said Mrs Walker had two other matters before the court for offences of a similar nature. She appeared in Magistrates’ Court on May 19 and April 25 to answer to those charges.She is set to face trial for the earlier matters on July 26 and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned today’s matters for mention on that date.Mrs Walker was released on $10,000 bail, with one surety.
