Mechanics hold sick-out at Bermuda Motors
Eight mechanics at Bermuda Motors held a sick-out this morning, management has confirmed.
A statement just issued from the dealership said: “Bermuda Motors Limited confirms with regret that the mechanical technicians have all called in sick today. We apologise for any inconvenience to our valued customers.”
Glenn Desilva, the company's After Sales Manager, said that he had only been informed of the action when individual staff members called in sick this morning.
“There has been no notice of industrial action; but it would be highly unusual for all members of the team to be sick on the same day,” he said.
“If staff has a grievance there are procedures in place to address their concerns internally with their union representative.”
Mr Desilva said he had “some idea” of the reason for the sick-out, but declined to comment further. He added that the mechanics could take two consecutive sick days without a doctor's note under their union agreement.
The rest of the company's operations, including the showroom, are said to be continuing as normal today.
