MarketPlace, Just Shirts team up to help Salvation Army provide school uniforms

A new scheme has been set up to help people with the cost of school uniforms.

The MarketPlace have partnered with Just Shirts Dry Cleaners to help the Salvation Army provide school uniforms for needy families. Major Shawn Critch, Divisional Commander for the Salvation Army, said that the demand for school uniforms is high as the start of the school year approaches. In this year’s challenging economic climate, the number of families looking for assistance is expected to be higher.“We know these are difficult times for a lot of families, Major Critch said. “All schools require their students to have their uniform, their sports clothes, summer uniform and winter uniform.“It’s challenging to afford everything, especially this year when we find a lot of families facing unemployment of facing financial hardship. We believe this will certainly help families who have having hard times with the costs of getting ready for the new school year.”With the demands for services like those provided by the Salvation Army on the rise, Major Critch said partnerships like this one can make a difference for families challenged by the economy.“We are very excited about this partnership, very excited to be working with Marketplace,” Major Critch said.“I think having this partnership, where clothes are donated and come to us clean and ready to go on the rack will be a great help for us and the public.”Between now and August 26, school uniforms donated through the Shopping Centre Store will be dry cleaned before being delivered to the Salvation Army Thrift Shop. And the MarketPlace will offer parents a $10 gift certificate for every complete school uniform donated in good condition.Donated uniforms can be dropped off at the Human resources Department of the Shopping Centre Store on Victoria Street between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. In order to receive the $10 voucher, the uniform must include a shirt, shorts (or slacks or skirt/skort) and a gym uniform or a school blazer/sweater. The cleaned uniforms will be on sale at the salvation Army Thrift Shop, open between 10am and 3pm on Tuesday and Saturday.Useful websites: www.salvationarmy.ca/bermuda/, www.marketplace.bm.
