Alleged armed robbers appear in court

Two brothers accused of robbing a man and teenage girl at knife point were charged in court this morning.

Ezra Mark Ararat, 25 and Ezra Ezzard Ararat II, 26, appeared before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Victim Kenneth Williams, 21, and Victoria DeCoute, 16, were not required to enter pleas regarding the alleged incident on Hermitage Road on the evening of August 27. The matter must be dealt with in the Supreme Court.

Prosecutor Larissa Burgess said the defendants and a third person not before the court came up to a parked car with the victims in it.

One of the robbers put a knife to the throat of Mr Williams and made stabbing motions at him.

Mr Williams subsequently suffered a knife wound to his right calf and needed hospital treatment.

Ms DeCoute was hit on her head above her eye but did not require hospital treatment.

According to a police report on the incident, more than one blade was wielded by the robbers and they then fled the scene.

Today, the brothers were jointly charged with robbing Mr Williams of a cell phone and Ms DeCoute of gold jewellery. They were also charged with knife possession.

The brothers must come back to court next month and were remanded into custody.
