Three year ban for cricketer involved in violent clashes

St George's cricketer Detroy Smith has been banned from the game for three years following his part in two gang-related incidents earlier this season.Smith, team-mate Macai Simmons and PHC's Khiry Furbert all clashed at games at Wellington Oval in July and at PHC Field last month.Furbert was handed a two-year ban for his part in the affair, while Simmons was given a nine-month suspension.Smith can return to cricket on Spetember 9, 2014, with Furbert allowed back on the same date a year earlier.Simmons' ban runs out on May 31, 2012.Meanwhile, Willow Cuts' Deunte Darrell has been banned for a year for his part in the abandoned match between Devonshire Rec and Willow Cuts last Sunday.Darrell was punished for verbally abusing and threatening umpire Lester Harnett. However, his Cuts team-mate, Chris Douglas esacped with a severe reprimand, despite kicking over a set of stumps in the same incident.Harnett's report in to the affair is understood to have not included Douglas' offence, and Bermuda Cricket Board were unable to fully punish the Cuts player because of a lack of evidence.
