New ammunition magazine planned for Warwick Camp

A new ammunition storage house is in the works for the Bermuda Regiment.Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Brian Gonsalves promised “the most stringent and safest standards” explosives and pyrotechnics are to be kept behind two-foot cement walls at the new facility. The Regiment’s current storehouse has deteriorated with age, although British Army specialists have deemed it safe to use while a new structure is built.Designs submitted to the Planning Department by the Ministry of Public Works call for a 1,600 sq ft concrete building in the middle of Warwick Camp, with four storage rooms housing “ammunition and pyrotechnics”.The storage rooms will be able to accommodate four crates of ammunition powder each, with a two foot wall separating the explosives from a sergeant’s office. All explosives will be stored behind a code-locked security door left over from the previous facility.Useful website: www.bermudaregiment.bm.
