Let’s fix it!

The Royal Navy flag, the White Ensign hangs torn and battered on the Cenotaph out side on the Cabinet building grounds Friday afternoon. The Cenotaph is a replica of the Cenotaph at Whitehall, London and commemorates the men and women lost in war.

A retired soldier has blasted the tattered condition of the Royal Navy flag at the Cenotaph war memorial on Front Street.“It’s disrespectful that the flag has been left this way,” said former Sergeant Frank Thompson. “The white ensign flag of the Royal Navy looks like a dishrag.”Mr Thompson said the Navy sacrificed lives to defend Bermuda throughout the First and Second World War.“To have the flag hanging up there in that condition is like walking on someone’s grave,” he said.Bermuda’s war memorial will be the scene of observances next month, when the November 11 Remembrance Day ceremonies are held at the Front Street monument.
