Fish fry to help boy, 5

St Mark’s Church is to hold a fish fry for the family of a five-year-old in hopes of raising money for his surgery overseas.Doctors determined when Frederick Smith was born that his oesophagus wasn’t connected to his stomach. He has had to undergo treatment abroad for the condition for most of his life. The Smith’s church is to host a fish fry for him and his family next week Friday.Frederick’s grandmother, Eyvette Smith, said yesterday that he returned from Halifax Children’s Hospital only recently and would have to return next year for further operations.“He has been going back and forth his whole life,” she said. “We were hoping that everything would be all right by now, but that hasn’t happened.“The family decided to do something to help him out and, since I belong to the St Mark’s church, I went to them. They pray for him every Sunday.”She said that the family isn’t looking to raise a specific amount of money, just something to help put towards the medical bills. The takeout fish fry will be held October 28 between 6pm and 8pm at St Mark’s Parish Hall. Tickets cost $15, and are available from Mrs Smith (ro-dene[AT]logic.bm) or Janet Dublin (burrows08[AT]logic.bm).
