Range of topics set for Childwatch forum

Families are being invited to have their say on the all-important issues that could affect the future generations of Bermuda.Childwatch, which works towards equality for children, is this weekend hosting a public forum called ‘Moving Families Forward’.The event will start with a video presentation by Dr Richard Warshak from Texas who has more than 25 years of experience as a psychologist specialising in family matters.He will give a series of tips for parents and children and discuss how certain situations should be handled.There will then be a panel discussion between Family, Youth and Sports Minister Glenn Blakeney, Former Attorney General Phil Perinchief, former UBP Senator Suzanne Holshouser, school counsellor Anthony Peets, political commentator Ras Mykkal and Childwatch co-founder Eddie Tavares.The discussion among the six experts is expected to look at the impact of separation and divorce on children and how estranged families are contributing to Bermuda’s gang violence.The public will then have a chance to direct their questions, concerns or general observations to the panel members.Mr Tavares said: “We hope to cover a wide-range of topics with a presentation, a panel discussion then a question-and-answer session from the public.The public forum, which has been sponsored by The Royal Gazette, is being aimed at moms, dads and children over the age of 11.The free-of-charge event kicks off at 6.30pm on Saturday (October 29) at St Theresa’s Church Hall.Extra parking is available in the car park of Mount St. Agnes Academy and light refreshments and drinks will be served from 6.15pm.Mr Tavares added: “We want to get the message across to as many people as we can”.For more information phone 292-3529, e-mail childwatch.Bermuda[AT]yahoo.com or visit the website at www.childwatch.bm.
