Locals were encouraged to participate in Restaurant Week yesterday.Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert and Victoria Grill owner Phillip Barnett both touted what they said was an incredible opportunity to sample great food at great prices. The Week, which ends on February 6, has 31 participating restaurants offering three course dinners at $29, $39 and $49.The Minister refused to be drawn in, when it was pointed out that the Week was being held at the same time that his colleague, Economy Minister Patrice Minors had ordered all foreign kitchen porters to quit working and settle their affairs. The Ministry is reviewing the policy but many in the industry remain concerned.“We’re talking about Restaurant Week right now and those issues will be dealt with by the Minister of Immigration,” he said.Mr Barnett, who serves as co-chair of the Restaurant Division of the Chamber of Commerce, said: “I’m Bermudian, my manager is Bermudian and my two staff members inside are Bermudian and my pot washer is Bermudian. So I think every Bermudian needs to come out and support our industry and help us out.”
