A chorus of local vocalists raised the rafters at the Masterworks Museum singing a tribute to John Lennon.

A 30-strong group of singers, including some well-known faces, performed the Beatles song ‘All You Need is Love’ for a new video by Lucinda Spurling of Afflare Films.

The track will be on a Double Fantasy tribute CD of Lennon/Beatles songs sung by Bermudian and Bermuda-linked artists to tie in with the unveiling of the Double Fantasy sculpture in the Botanical Gardens on June 21 and a music concert to mark the event.

Ms Spurling is filming a documentary about the celebration.

The singing at the museum, which is located in the Botanical Gardens, was conducted and directed by Felix Tod, husband of Bermudian singer Heather Nova.

Among the famous faces to drop in were Government MPs Wayne Furbert and Glenn Blakeney and local singers Will Black and Gavin Smith.

Tony Brannon, organiser of the Lennon tribute events, explained there was an open casting call for singers on Facebook. Others showed up from the Chewstick arts organisation.

“We’ve got politicians, business people, people from Chewstick. They’re sounding fantastic, singing their hearts out,” said Mr Brannon.

“It’s a really good atmosphere.”

The sculpture is to commemorate Lennon’s two months in Bermuda in summer 1980 when he wrote his last album ‘Double Fantasy,’ titled after a flower he came across in the Botanical Gardens.

Meanwhile British singer-songwriter Judie Tzuke has confirmed she will also be singing at the Lennon tribute on June 21.

She is best known for her 1979 hit son ‘Stay With Me Til Dawn’ when she was signed to Elton John’s label Rocket Records. She has recorded a version of John Lennon’s song ‘Love’ for the tribute.
