New Governor will take pay cut
Created: Mar 24, 2012 09:02 AM
George Fergusson, Bermuda’s next Governor, will be taking a pay cut, it was announced today.
The issue was raised by former Premier Ewart Brown, who noted in his speech in the Cayman Islands yesterday that there had been no calls for budget cutbacks for Government House and suggested that the Governor had a moral obligation to lead by example and volunteer to take a pay cut.
A statement issued by the Department of Communication and Information on behalf of Mr Fergusson reads: “The Governor-designate is clear that as a member of the Bermuda Public Service, he would expect to take his share of any public service pay cut.”
