Missionary Society to offer free dinner to families tonight

The social action arm of St Paul AME Church will roll out another free dinner tonight for families struggling to make ends meet.

The Rose Bell Women’s Missionary Society will also screen a family movie for those who attend.

This is the second dinner to be hosted by the society as part of their outreach programme.

Society head Madree Lindsay said: “We especially welcome fathers and their children as we reach out to encourage our fellowmen in these hard times.”

Ms Lindsay stressed that the dinner is free, but they will accept donations to help fund future event.

Meanwhile, Future Bermuda Alliance (FBA), the youth wing of One Bermuda Alliance plans to host a free dinner for single fathers.

The group hosted a dinner for single mothers at Vasco Da Gama Club earlier this month.

A spokesperson said: “We believe you cannot help people unless you first understand their situation, and that is the basis on which we organised the event.

“More than 100 single mothers and their children attended the March 8 dinner. Single mothers are the unsung heroes of Bermuda.

“Raising a family alone is a major dawn-to-dusk challenge with constant pressure to organise children, counsel them, feed them, transport them and provide for them. Single mothers do this everyday.”

The FBA will host a series of forums next month to assist single mothers with tips on budgeting, legal advice, proper nutrition and parenting.

The next forum will be held on April 4 at the Berkeley Institute.

Tonight’s dinner will be served at 6.30pm at St Paul Centennial Hall in Hamilton; the movie will follow at 7.30pm .
