A high-ranking official of the world’s Boy Scouts organisation is to visit Bermuda.Nigel Hailey’s arrival coincides with a push by Bermuda’s Scouts to boost flagging numbers of adult volunteers.Mr Hailey, International Commissioner for the Scout Association, will join this weekend’s Island Jamboree.“It’s an opportunity for all the scouts and for the community to get involved with all that’s good about scouting,” said Chief Commissioner of Scouts for the Bermuda Scout Association Geoffrey Rothwell.The local chapter, just for boys, starts with Cub Scouts at the age of eight. Currently, Dr Rothwell said, numbers have fallen to just one Cub troupe and two Scout troupes.“Part of the problem is getting enough adult volunteers to step forward,” he said.
