Rider hurt; suspected impaired drivers arrested

A 19-year-old Pembroke man ended up in the emergency ward for treatment following an accident on Sunday.The accident occurred around 3.30am in the vicinity of Reid and Queen Streets in Hamilton.Police and first responders arrived to find the victim and his motorcycle. A spokesman said the rider was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated and subsequently released.Police officers were also busy this past weekend with impaired drivers. A 28-year-old Warwick man was arrested after he was spotted driving erratically by officers on patrol on South Road in Paget around 11.20pm on Sunday.The driver, who appeared to be intoxicated is now facing a court appearance in due course.And a 41-year-old Warwick man was arrested in St David’s on suspicion of impaired driving around 11.30pm on Friday. A spokesman said charges are pending against the rider who is due to appear in Magistrates’ Court.In all six people were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of impaired driving, another 14 were arrested for outstanding warrants. Officers also conducted routine checks at various licensed premises island-wide under the Liquor Licensing Act.
