Deputy Premier in London for celebrations

Deputy Premier –Derrick Burgess

Deputy Premier Derrick Burgess met with members of the British Royal Family and Government while taking part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in London.Mr Burgess, along with Kimberly Durrant of Bermuda’s London Office, were on-board the Mercuria, an FCO vessel, during the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on Sunday.On Monday, the pair attended a reception at Buckingham Palace and the BBC Diamond Jubilee Concert.According to a Government spokesman, Mr Burgess used the opportunity to speak with Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, Prime Minister David Cameron and Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband about Bermuda.And on Tuesday, Mr Burgess attended the National Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral and a subsequent lunch at Guildhall hosted by Foreign Secretary William Hague.Commenting on the trip, Mr Burgess said: “It was an honour to be present and share in the celebration of the 60 year reign of the Queen and her immense dedication to Britain and the Commonwealth.“Throughout the entire weekend the Queen was gracious as always. We were grateful to the level of hospitality afforded to Bermuda.“It was evident the Monarchy and the UK Coalition Government cherish its British Overseas Territories.”
