Giving back with a free hot breakfast
Around 70 people turned up for a free hot breakfast yesterday morning at the Anglican Cathedral.Early arrivals were already waiting outside before the doors opened at 10am.The meal was part of the Eliza DoLittle Society’s Daily Bread programme. The programme serves a free breakfast every Monday and Thursday as part of its mission to help the homeless and the needy.Yesterday’s meal was sponsored by KRyS Global, a corporate services company marking its fifth anniversary, by giving back to the community. The meals are supplied entirely by donations, said Terry Battersbee of the Eliza DoLittle Society.Ms Battersbee is responsible for raising food and helped arrange the partnership with KRyS Global.“Through word of mouth, they found out about our organisation and asked what could be done,” she said. “We’ve been blessed, thanks to donations from individuals and companies.”One man has been coming to Eliza DoLittle’s Monday and Thursday breakfasts for two months.“This has helped me save some money to pay off my bills since I don’t have to worry about paying for food,” he said. “I just hope more Bermudians will know about this place.”Another regular visitor noted the volunteers’ friendly attitudes.“They treat you as a human being,” he said. “I’ve been laid off, so this helps me out on a day-to-day basis until I get back on my feet.”Kenneth Krys, KRyS Global’s founder and CEO participated in the Bermuda branch’s community project.“I wanted something where we could help out people who are struggling,” he said. “Here we thought the best thing would be to help out this programme.”KRyS Global employees are participating in other community service projects in Cayman, the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas this week, where the company’s sister offices are located.
