Storm hits 911 phone service

This dramatic shot of lightning crackling above Bermuda yesterday evening was taken by Richard Paynter from his home in Wellington Street, St George. He was looking out over the roof of the Heritage Centre across the harbour towards St David's. The electrical storm briefly knocked out the Island's 911 emergency phone service, while an earlier storm caused problems for the swing bridge in St George's. The Island's 911 phone service was fully restored shortly after the storm abated.

A violent electrical storm that swept over Bermuda yesterday evening briefly knocked out the Island’s 911 emergency phone number service.An urgent message was put out by the Bermuda Police Service to advice Islanders to call the main police number if they had an emergency. However, the 911 service was restored shortly afterwards.Earlier in the day, another electrical storm caused problems when the swing bridge in St George’s lost power.
