Buzz in talks to link up with Esso Bermuda

Talks are underway between Esso Bermuda and Buzz cafes for the chain to take over food services at local gas stations. But Esso’s lead country manager Mark Fields scotched rumours that Esso jobs might be jeopardised by the alignment, which could see Buzz becoming a second tenant at Esso stations.“The announcement was made to some staff that we are in talks with Buzz. We have not come to any agreement with them,” Mr Fields said.He added: “We do not anticipate that any jobs will be lost. We anticipate that all staff will be taken care of.”The discussions are taking place with the corporate branch of Esso Bermuda, and do not involve the dealerships which run the stations themselves.Mr Fields said the Labour Act required staff to be kept informed of any possible deal, which could see Esso Bermuda “aligning with Buzz in the food department”.The deal, if agreed, could see the cafe chain taking over Esso hot food facilities, but would not affect purchases such as “buying a Coke or a bag of chips”, he added.
