Join in the ‘Move it’ fitness drive on Sunday

People are being urged to ‘move it, move it, move it’ on Sunday. The Department of Health, the Bermuda conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, Lindo’s, and RUBiS are all backing Let’s Move Day on Sunday. They are encouraging the public to participate in the day by either joining the Walking Club at Chaplin Bay at 7am, by walking on their own or by participating in one of two walking routes — the East End walk route is from Shelly Bay Field to the Arboreturm, and the West End route is from TN Tatem Middle School to the Arboretum. Both routes have a $10 registration fee and start at 3pm on Sunday. There will also be an obstacle course for children at the Arboreturm between 3pm and 7pm.Those interested in joining the Chaplin Bay Walking Club can visit www.walkfree.bm and those interested in logging their miles for their independent exercise on the day can visit www.health.gov.bm and click on the Let’s Move Day logo.A spokeswoman for the event said: “The goal of “Let’s Move Day” is to get as many people as possible involved in physical activity on that day. This event will create community awareness for childhood obesity. All groups, schools and organisations are invited to participate as we move together and promote healthy lifestyles.”The event organisers aim for participators to generate 10,000 miles Islandwide through exercise that day.The spokeswoman added: “Physical activity is one of the essential keys to health, healing and wholeness. It is the Department of Health’s hope that this day’s activities will become the spark that gets significantly more Bermudians engaged in regular physical activity.”The organisers also noted that participators can move in any way, whether it’s walking running or cycling. For more information call 292-4110.Useful website: www.health.gov.bm
