Traffic disrupted after trench collapses in Southampton

Motorists were yesterday warned about a road closure after a truck collapsed a trench where road widening work is taking place.A Belco spokeswoman said that Rebecca Road in Southampton, located near Waterlot Inn, was temporarily closed to traffic due to the collapse.Said a Belco spokeswoman yesterday: “Trenching on Rebecca Road, in conjunction with Government’s Southampton road-widening project, has been temporarily suspended, as a commercial vehicle has collapsed a portion of the trench.”Belco apologised to motorists for the inconvenience.Also said the spokeswoman: “Government will complete asphalting [today] to repair damage that occurred when the area being trenched was collapsed by a Works & Engineering trash truck.”The road was later reopened at around 4pm.
