A contract for almost $7 million has been awarded to provide airport security services, according to the official Government notices in the Official Gazette.The contract, for $6.9 million, went to Bermuda Security Group“The contract for airport security services is a contract renewal,” said a Government spokesman. Specifically, it was described as a contract to provide airport security services to the L.F Wade International Airport and was granted on September 25. “Personnel do require specific training and security clearance,” said the spokesman.There was no response to questions about the length of the contract or exactly what services they provide.Bermuda Security Group is owned Herman Tucker, who bought the company in 2002 after a career in the Civil Service which included positions as the Director of Civil Aviation, Permanent Secretary of Transport and Assistant Cabinet Secretary.In addition, a contract for more than $600,000 has been awarded to New World Systems to provide the Bermuda Police Service with a computer aided dispatch service.That announcement was also made in the official Government notices in Official Gazette.A Government spokesman said the police and New World Systems have a relationship that dates back more than a decade. ‘“New World Systems has been providing service and support to the BPS for the past 12 years. During the course of this interaction, BPS has built a strong relationship with the NWS technical team resulting in a good after sales support experience.”He explained: “The current CAD system is built on older technology and does not support the integration with the new Records Management System (RMS) that is currently being implemented.“Not upgrading the system will pose a significant risk to the success of the RMS project since the old CAD system does not easily support the needs and requirements of this project.“New World Systems emerged as the vendor of choice. The deciding factor was in the area of total cost of ownership and previous history of service as New World is our current vendor for the existing RMS and CAD system.“The pricing structure of New World Systems was within the allotted budget for this project.”The contract, which was for $615,232, was awarded by the Ministry of National Security on September 18 after being tendered.
