Second woman complains about child support payment delays

Another angry mother has complained that she is owed a large sum of child support money by Magistrates’ Court. She is the third woman to come forward in the past month to say that her former partner is making payments, but they are not being forwarded to her.The 57-year-old from Sandys, who asked not to be named, said her former partner has been making regular payments of $975 per month for their three children. However, she has not received the money via Magistrates’ Court in three months and has tried to get answers from the court without success.“When I first stopped getting the money in October I went to the court and checked and they told me they had a computer glitch,” she said. “They told us they had a new system.“Nothing happened and I kept calling and was told the money would be in the account.”When she eventually complained to the Ombudsman, Arlene Brock, Ms Brock said she did not have the power to investigate the courts, and referred her back to a manager there. The frustrated mother told The Royal Gazette: “I just want the money but I don’t know what they are doing to rectify it.“It’s kind of hard. I have been trying to catch up here and there. I have a business so I’m not destitute like some mothers.”She got in touch to tell her story after we reported earlier this week on a 48-year-old, from Warwick, who said she had not received any money for weeks, even though her ex had been making payments at $175 per week. The woman, who also asked to remain anonymous, said the courts owed her payments totalling $525 but she had not received any answers.Previously, another mother — a 32-year-old from Devonshire who has a ten-year-old daughter said that a $100 payment her daughter’s father made had not been credited to her account.Government was invited to respond to this story, but no response was forthcoming by press time.
