Thousands of toys donated for needy tots
What happens when the community bands together to donate toys for needy children — the success of the annual Toys For Tots programme which surpassed it’s goal. The holiday gift giving scheme, sponsored by Coldwell Banker, managed to raise more than 2,200 toys over the course of several weeks. The gifts were loaded into trucks and will be delivered to the Coalition for the Protection of Children, where they will be wrapped and distributed at a Christmas party this weekend. Transportation was provided by Joe Viera Trucking.Coldwell sales representative Cratonia Smith said: “The excitement that has been building as the campaign draws to a close is unbelievable.“Our entire office has been active in collecting toys from businesses, schools and retail supporters around the Island.”Toys for Tots campaign was first launched by Kim Webb in 2002. Over the past ten years it has worked to ensure that as many children as possible experience the joy of receiving a brand new toy for the holidays. Toys not needed by the Coalition are given to help other charities looking to accomplish the same goal in the festive season.Coldwell Banker extended “a sincere thank you” to those who donated; as well as The Annex Stores, Gorhams, People’s Pharmacy, Face and Body, Hunts Food & Supplies, Heaven Sent Baby Boutique, Arnold’s Discount Warehouse and Daisy and Mac.
