Alert as baby recliner is recalled
A brand of baby recliner has been recalled by US retailers after reportedly causing death and injury to infants.Products included in the recall are Nap Nanny Generations One and Two, and the Chill model infant recliners.A spokesman for Bermuda’s Department of Consumer Affairs said: “We are currently contacting the major baby retailers in Bermuda to advise them of this recall.“Consumers who have purchased this product locally are urged to contact the retailer from which they purchased a Nap Nanny recliner.”The Nap Nanny is described as a portable infant recliner designed for sleeping, resting and playing. The recliner includes a bucket seat shaped foam base and a fitted fabric cover with a three point harness. The first generation of the devices was recalled in 2010 following the death of one child and 22 reports of infants hanging or falling over the sides of the Nap Nanny.Despite improvements to the warnings and instructions and design modifications for later generations, additional deaths have been reported and there nave been 70 reports of children nearly falling out of the device.More than 150,000 of the devices have been sold internationally since 2009 at toy and children’s retail stores. The product’s manufacturer, Baby Matters LLC, has not recalled the recliners, but Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, Diapers.com and Toys R Us have all issued voluntary recalls for the product.
