‘Substantial’ donation seeds fund for Reading Clinic
A foundation in support of the Reading Clinic is to be launched today, based around a substantial donation made to the charity.“The Reading Clinic has expanded enormously, and since we need funding for the children who need help, we have started the foundation in order to meet that need,” said Elizabeth Kitson, who created the organisation from her own home back in 1968.“Everybody who goes to the Clinic will get full diagnostic tests, because there are so many different causes of reading disability. Unless you know the causes, you can’t really help.”According to her son Kirk Kitson, fresh from spearheading a $200,000 fundraiser for the Family Centre: “The foundation is being set up to provide an income to the Reading Clinic to pay for children with learning disabilities whose parents need financial help to cover costs.”He added: “At present, the unfunded costs are over $100,000 a year and rising as Bermuda’s economy contracts.”The foundation, which is to be officially announced at 11.30am at the Reading Clinic, is to go into operation immediately, he said.
