Heart Foundation creates ‘love tree’ to raise funds

A ‘Garden of Love’ opens in the Washington Mall today as part of a Valentine’s Day campaign in support of Bermuda Heart Foundation.Sousa’s Landscaping has helped Washington Mall create an indoor garden with a variety of plants, benches and water features. At the heart of the display will be a “love tree” where visitors can leave messages for their loved ones if they make a donation to the Bermuda Heart Foundation.“The message will be written on heart-shaped biodegradable paper that has flower seeds pressed into it,” a spokeswoman said.“At the end of February the tree will be planted in a public park along with the love messages. The seeds from the paper will sprout flowers in the spring creating a carpet of flowers around the love tree.“A plaque will also be placed with the tree so that people are aware of its meaning and all the heartfelt messages that were planted with it.”There will also be a “love-a-gram” competition, with the winners having a message or song sung to their sweetheart on Valentine’s Day.Premier Craig Cannonier and Government MPs Jeff Sousa and Nandi Davis will open the garden at noon today.
