Fierce weekend rain failed to dampen round one of the Island Challenge, which so far has brought in about $30,000 for charity.Organiser Aideen Ratteray Pryse congratulated the 89 teams that tackled the obstacle course at Warwick Camp and the shoreline on Saturday. The Rum Runners team came top in both the female and overall grand prize categories, she said.Other winners were team CRaBS in the males’ category, Victorious Secret in the mixed teams, Ariel Re in the company category and Warwick Academy’s Class of 2013 in the youth category.“No one seemed put off even though there were squalls coming through — and the water, I understand, was cold,” Ms Ratteray Pryse said. This year’s challenge is threefold: an urban obstacle course is set for St George’s in April, and a “royal challenge” for Dockyard in October. All funds raised go to charities Knowledge Quest, The Menuhin Foundation and De Boys’ Day Out Club.Useful website: www.islandchallenge.org.
