More than $2,000 will be donated by local runners who participated in the Boston Marathon to assist the victims of the recent bombings.Spokesperson Rose-Anna Hoey, one of 16 participants in the Boston race said the group will transfer $2,300 to the One Fund for Boston this week. A dozen runners who ran the Boston Marathon handed out black ribbons in exchange for donations during the RMS Construction 10K and 20K yesterday.Ms Hoey said she was pleasantly surprised by the steady pace of donations made on Saturday at the Sports Cellar when runners came in to pick up their race numbers. The group decided to collect donations after the tragic bombings that killed three and injured more than 170 people.Asked how the group performed after the gruelling marathon she said: “We all hobbled around together in the 10K, most of us were still recovering from the marathon and not all us finished the RMS race. But we really want to thank people for their support.“It’s really a time for us to remember that the people injured were innocent bystanders who came out to support participants in the Boston Marathon. Hopefully this was a single incident and our prayers are with those affected by this tragedy,” she added. And she encouraged residents to take up the cause by donating to the One Fund for Boston to assist the victims and their families.
