Near catastrophe: A cat was rescued by Belco staff yesterday after it got stuck at the top of an electricity pole in Devonshire.

A feral cat hunting birds had to be rescued by Belco workers after it ended up stuck at the top of a Devonshire electricity pole.Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inspector Glyn Roberts said: “To add insult to injury, the tables were soon turned when the local bird population started dive bombing the cat while it was trapped.“Crows, kiskadees and even starlings were seen swooping down and attempting to chase the cat away often only just missing the cowering cat by a whisker.”Company staff had to use an elevating platform to bring the animal down from the police, at the junction of Poinciana Road and Watlington Road East near Lindo’s.Mr Roberts added: “The feral cat, which didn’t want to cooperate in its own rescue, initially put up a struggle before being restrained and lowered to ground level. Once released it ran off into the bushes — probably embarrassed and no doubt hoping none of the other feral cats saw what had happened.”
