Belco workman allowed to keep motorcycle licence
A 23-year-old man caught driving while impaired was allowed to keep his motorcycle licence.Magistrate Nicole Stoneham agreed with Corey Boyce that he should be allowed to ride his motorcycle because of his duties at work.Boyce, a supervisor at Belco, had earlier told Magistrates’ Court: “When emergencies happen during the day and weekends, I need to respond to them in a reasonable amount of time.”Crown counsel Garrett Byrne said Boyce was stopped by police around 6pm last Saturday.Officers noticed him on Front Street, driving in an erratic manner.Boyce turned on his windshield wipers instead of his left turn indicator, as he stopped the car.Police noticed he smelled of alcohol. Boyce told them: “I just came off a cruise.”Mr Byrne insisted that Boyce should be disqualified from driving all motor vehicles as there were “no special reasons” he should keep his licence.Ms Stoneham fined Boyce $1,500 and banned him from driving cars for 12 months.
