Sandys 360 not on commission’s naughty list

Sandys 360

Sandys 360 isn’t among the “delinquent” charities ordered to send in their audited financial statements to Government, according to acting chairman Stanley Lee.“We’re definitely not on that list,” he told The Royal Gazette — acknowledging that the West End charity is still challenged in getting its affairs in order before its financials can get checked.Sandys 360 is reorganising to absorb the Sandys 360 Foundation, thus creating a single entity — but the organisation’s finances still reflect the complicated arrangement of the foundation using the property of Sandys Secondary Middle School.Mr Lee said the group was scheduled to meet this week with accountants Deloitte and Touche so that its accounts can be readied for auditing.“There was an interlocking of accounts,” he said.Asked if Sandys 360 was still getting donations to meet its operating expenses, Mr Lee replied: “That has slipped quite a bit. We are going to get back out there. But we are taking this whole year to get restructured and reorganised.”A new Board of Directors has yet to be appointed for the organisation.Asked if there was any risk of Sandys 360 losing its charitable status, Mr Lee said: “No, we’re not included in any of that.”About 50 of the Island’s 372 registered charities were given until July 31 to hand in audited financials to the Registry General’s office — but The Royal Gazette was told that the financials are not yet ready to be shared with the public, however. This newspaper understands that the Charity Commission, charged with vetting the audited financials, is to meet later in the month.
