Weather radar system out of order

The Island’s weather radar system is down for repairs but will be fixed “as soon as possible”, the Bermuda Weather Service announced today.The system, which is located on Cooper’s Island, was taken out of service for “necessary diagnostic checks and required repairs”, director Kimberley Zuill said.The repairs are being made by staff at the Department of Airport Operations and BAS-Serco.In the meantime, the Bermuda Weather Service is using secondary radar for essential aviation weather forecasting, Ms Zuill said.During the temporary outage, the public will be able to get alternative information via the imagery tab provided on the following websites: www.weather.bm, www.weather.bm/IRsatelliteImage.asp and www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/smcd/emb/ff/HE_CA_1Hour.php..
