Women’s centre looking to raise $15k
Women’s Resource Centre volunteers will hit the streets today and on Saturday to raise $15,000 to provide counselling and other helping services for women.
The centre’s mission “is to create a Bermuda where women are empowered to live positive lives free from violence, discrimination and oppression”.
“In an effort to live up to our motto; ‘Strong Women, Strong Families, Strong Community’, as well as empower women to make better life choices we provide ‘prevention’ training,” said Executive Director Patrice Frith Hayward.
“With this training we address the issues of declining self esteem, unhealthy relationships and parenting concerns through our educational programs and workshops.
“And WRC continues to provide assistance to survivors of sexual assault and other issues pertaining to women and their families such as relationships and divorce, family matters and grief, through our counselling programme.
“We are hoping to raise $15,000 this year with the optimism of that increasing every year,” she added.
“We cannot stress how much we appreciate the support of the people of Bermuda for their charitable spirits during previous tag days and are looking forward to having the same support this year.”
While realising that “times are extremely difficult” she said continuing the services offered by WRC is imperative.
“Tag day donations play a vital role in sustaining our mission. Of course, we are also extremely grateful for the support of our valuable staff and volunteers, who make our tag days possible.”
Donations can also be made to the Women’s Resource Centre’s HSBC account # 010-250041-001 or via cheque to PO Box DV 592, Devonshire DV BX.
