A second woman involved in a fight outside Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club has received an absolute discharge after changing her plea.

ReAna Harris, 22, of Friswell’s Road, Pembroke, appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning to admit taking part in the December 27 fight.

She had previously denied the charge.

Her change of heart came a day after Brandi Bassett, also 22, of Suffering Lane, St George’s, received an absolute discharge after admitting the same offence. She had also initially denied the charge.

“You must read the paper,” Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said to Ms Harris, who replied she intended to change her plea the day before, along with Ms Bassett, adding: “It didn’t work out.”

Ms Bassett and Ms Harris first appeared in court on Friday, alongside Akilah Smith, of Robert’s Avenue, Devonshire.

Both Ms Harris and Ms Bassett were charged with taking part in the incident in the early hours of December 27, while Ms Smith denied unlawfully assaulting a woman and doing her actual bodily harm.

Ms Harris, who is set to return to school in Canada on Saturday, where she is studying for a business degree, apologised for her actions, saying: “I am not that kind of person.”

Her absolute discharge means that, like Ms Bassett, she escapes a criminal conviction.

Ms Smith is due back in court on June 23.
