Gov’t seeking proposals for former Club Med site
Government is looking for new proposals for the site of the former Club Med resort in St George’s, according to a notice in yesterday’s edition of The Royal Gazette.
“The Ministry of Tourism Development and Transport is inviting proposals to create a luxury hotel development on the 124 acre parcel located at the former Club Med Hotel site,” read the notice
“The St George’s Development site is intended to provide a high quality tourism development consistent with the historical and natural significance of the area. The proposal should complement the St George’s UNESCO Heritage Site designation while providing economic opportunities for the people of St George’s and Bermuda.”
Club Med closed its doors in 1988 and the structure itself was demolished in 2008.
Businessman Carl Bazarian was hired to develop a Park Hyatt resort on the property but his development agreement was terminated because of several breaches to the contract. Government formally repealed the Park Hyatt (St George’s) Resort Act in September, scrapping the developer’s 262-year lease on the property.
Interested parties are asked to collect the Request for Proposal from the Ministry of Tourism Development and Transport offices on North Street in Hamilton. The deadline for submissions is March 31.
