Darrell to sue Govt for breaking election pledge

Businessman Harold Darrell is planning to take legal action against the Government, claiming that Premier Craig Cannonier has broken a pre-election pledge to address misconduct by Government officials.

Mr Darrell filed a complaint against a senior lawyer employed in the Civil Service in September 2013, and subsequently had meetings with Attorney General Mark Pettingill and Community Affairs Minister Wayne Scott to express his concerns.

But according to Mr Darrell, authorities have now abandoned their probe into his complaint — after consulting with the lawyer at the centre of the allegations.

In a letter to The Royal Gazette, Mr Darrell said: “The OBA Government inherited the mechanics that were put in place and which are still at work within Government agencies involved with a human rights complaint I filed with the Human Rights Commission.

“However, despite being aware of their existence and that it is wrong, the OBA has done nothing to try and stop it since winning the Government.”

Mr Darrell said that Mr Scott was aware of the subject of his complaint “yet this is the person he is consulting with on this matter.”

He claimed that, through their lack of action, authorities were effectively endorsing the conduct of the lawyer “while holding me at bay with a lot of lip service”.

Mr Darrell who uses the pen name Son of the Soil, has posted his letter and a chronology of his complaint, on the internet at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Son-of-the-soil/459728080793405
