Cyclists face 100-mile challenge for charity

The Centre Against Abuse is hoping pedal power will raise hundreds of dollars to help fund the charity.

A 100-mile bicycle challenge is planned for Sunday with riders also having the option to bike 15, 25, 50 and 75 miles.

Entry fees run from $25 for the 15-mile ride to $150 for the full 100. That money will then be handed over to the Centre Against Abuse.

The Bermuda Century Ride will help cover the charity’s annual budget of $550,000, which includes funding for the Island’s only safe house for women and children escaping from violence.

Executive director Laurie Shiell said the Centre’s hope was for each rider to attain a pledge goal of $150, meaning those who go the full distance will get there on their entry fees alone.

“We would be delighted, of course, with all the funds raised by the cyclists and their friends and family as the work of CAA is incredibly important in bringing stability to our community,” Ms Shiell added.

Entries are being accepted now on www.racedayworld.com and entry forms are also available at Sportseller in the Washington Mall.
