Premier attends US prayer breakfast

Premier Craig Cannonier attended the 62nd National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC to hear President Barack Obama and other national and global leaders reaffirm their trust in God.

Accompanied by Chief of Staff Dale Jackson, Mr Cannonier joined more than 140 national and global leaders to recognise the “reconciling power of prayer and to build and strengthen relationships”.

“The Premier’s attendance at the event continues a long-standing tradition of Bermuda representation at the National Prayer Breakfast,” said the Premier’s spokeswoman Charmaine Burgess.

“Also in attendance were First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. President of the United States, Barack Obama spoke to the crowd of over 3,500 about the freedom of worship and how it can empower a nation.”

The keynote speaker for the event was Administrator for the US Agency to International Development, Rajiv Shah, “who encouraged the leaders to eliminate world hunger and extreme poverty”.

The Premier and Mr Jackson are due to return to Bermuda today.
