‘Drunk’ woman ignored police warning

A woman who repeatedly failed to heed the advice of Police officers was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

Officers were on duty in St George’s Square at around 3.15am on Saturday when they saw a female exit a nightclub being assisted by a man, according to police .

“The female then took out her car keys and began to get into her vehicle,” a police spokesman said. “Officers went over to the woman and asked her if she had consumed any alcoholic beverages, to which she replied yes.

“The officers advised the female on three separate occasions that she should not drive and she should seek an alternative method of going home. The woman refused to comply with the officers and got into her vehicle and began to drive off. She was promptly arrested for suspicion of driving whilst under the influence.”

The woman was taken to Hamilton Police Station where she failed a breath test and was subsequently detained. She is expected to appear in court in the near future.

The incident was one of several that took place over the weekend, including two reports of breaking and entering, three assaults and seven cycle thefts. A total of 18 traffic collisions were also reported, five of which resulted in injury.
