Forty-six young people have been granted scholarships by the National Training Board.

The Sponsorship Trainee Award is worth $18,000 and is linked to an apprenticeship and full-time employment after completion.

For this funding, industry partners apply on behalf of a staff member, who will undertake a specific course for a period of up to two years.

The other grant given out was the National Technical Vocational Training (NTVT) Award, which is worth $5,000 a year and is based on the recipient attaining a 2.7 grade point average. Programmes of study must not exceed four years.

The recipients were congratulated by Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy at an informal ceremony last week.

“I would like to thank the National Training Board for continuing to provide scholarship awards and opportunities for our people,” he said. “Because of these 2014 scholarships, 46 people now have the chance to further their education and improve their marketability in the workforce.”

Six of the 46 received a Sponsorship Award, with the rest given NTVT Awards.
