Milestone reached: Helen Wainwright celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday
Helen Wainwright celebrated her 100th birthday at the Francis Telford Nursing Home yesterday, surrounded by friends and family members.
Born in 1914, Ms Wainwright’s family was one of several forced out of Tucker’s Town in 1923 through a controversial compulsory acquisition order.
She recalled that when she was younger her family would have her drink aloe — something she still enjoys on occasion.
But when asked what was the secret to her longevity, she responded: “Hard work.”
